Ezekiels Temple: A Christian Perspective on Animal Sacrifices in Eternity

Because the Book of Ezekiel talks of a future temple with rules and regulations for animal sacrifices, most, if not all, of Christendom steers clear of Ezekiel from chapter 40 onward. Either Christians are at a total loss to explain it or they try and force a square peg into a round hole by citing the sacrifice of Jesus to write it all off as an allegory or something else. But that is nothing more than a cop out because the Old Testament prophets spoke about the same new age that the Revelation of Jesus Christ speaks about. Instead of throwing out the pieces of the puzzle we think don’t fit, we must consider all the pieces of the puzzle and not throw any away. For they must—and they do—fit together.

 

It is true that the law of Moses was made obsolete when Jesus was nailed to the cross and died for the sins of mankind:

 

“In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.”

 

—Hebrews 8:13

 

But that doesn’t mean the law has been done away with yet o no!

 

It’s still got over a thousand years (Millennial Reign) to go before being done away with permanently,  as long as this current earth and heaven remain, until they pass away, not one jot or one tittle of the law of Moses shall in no way pass away until all be fulfilled:

 

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

 

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

—Matthew 5:17-18

 

 

Hebrews says the old covenant is waxing old and is READY to vanish. But it has NOT YET vanished. It is still in play whilst this present heaven and earth remain. Once the totality of the law is fulfilled, then it, like this present earth and heaven, will be done away with permanently when we get a new heavens and a new earth, when the New Jerusalem comes come down out of heaven to earth and God comes to live with mankind at that time hallelujah forever and ever amen!

 

But until then, the law of Moses remains tied to this present heavens and earth. 

 

Jesus said the law will remain intact until heaven and earth pass away, that is when the law of Moses will also pass away—but not until then, and only until then.

 

When the Alpha and Omega creates the new heaven and new earth (see REV 21:5), when the New Jerusalem comes down out of heaven unto earth and God comes to live with mankind, the obsolete law of Moses will be done away with permanently and it will be permanently be replaced by the rules and regulations of Ezekiel’s temple in the new eternal order of things. In the new earth, there will be a ceremonial temple in a northern suburb, if you will, of the New Jerusalem, as spoken of by Ezekiel.

 

The Book of Hebrews compares the old and new covenants and points out the superiority of the new covenant by contrasting how the earthly temple is a model or shadow of the temple in heaven. The Jewish priests ministered in the earthly temple and will do so again in this present earth and heaven, but our High Priest, who is in the order of Melchizedek (see HEB 5:6), entered into the Most Holy of Holies in the heavenly temple by His own precious blood once and for all dealing with our sins forever and ever amen hallelujah! Thank you Jesus I will praise you and thank you forever O LORD for you are worthy there is none like you O LORD!

 

Those who belong to the High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, Jesus (see HEB 5:6), can, by faith, partake right now of the glorious things in the eternal age to come because we can enter into the Most Holy of Holies in the temple in heaven by the precious BLOOD OF THE LAMB! HALLELUJAH!

 

Those of us who belong to the heavenly temple have a superior covenant because it is based on better promises. Every promise in the Word is yes and amen through Jesus!

 

Those who overcome and endure until the end will be saved (see MATT 24:13) and become part of the temple of Messiah in heaven:

 

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God”

— REV 3:12

 

The Jewish priests ministered in the earthly temple, and will do so again, but our High Priest Jesus entered into the temple in heaven with His precious blood sacrifice. It is into the holy of holies in the temple in heaven that we have gained entrance into by the PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS.

 

Believers in Jesus belong to the heavenly temple and will have access to the New Jerusalem when it comes down out of heaven to earth and God will come and live with mankind forever amen (see EZEK 43:7, 48:35, REV 21:3)!

 

 

But before then, there will be a temple in Jerusalem, for the law of Moses is tied to this present heavens and earth. And those of us who belong to the High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, Jesus, we belong to the eternal order of things, when God comes down to earth to live with mankind. The gates of the New Jerusalem will be open 24/7 so the nations can bring their bounty into it (see REV 21:25-26), and the sons of God will rule and reign with Jesus from the New Jerusalem (see REV 22:5) for all time to come I can’t wait hallelujah!

Before any believers charge me with blasphemy for saying there will be animal sacrifices throughout eternity, consider my position, which is this:

 

Those of us who belong to the High Priest Jesus, who is in the order of Melchizedek, can partake and taste of the powers of the age to come now, by faith. We can enter into the Most Holy of Holies in heaven via the blood of the Jesus. We are free now from the Law of Moses now as we can now partake of the age to come by faith. That freedom however, does not give one a license to commit sexual immorality. That would be insulting the Spirit of grace.

 

But think not that animal sacrifices will be done away with in eternity. While the law of Moses will one day pass away, the prophets will never pass away. They spoke of the same eternal age to come as spoken of in the book of Revelation. 

 

Compare for example REV 22:5 with the following from Zechariah and Isaiah:

 

 

6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark:

 

7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

 

—Zechariah 14:6-7

 

 

 

19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

 

20 Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself: for the Lord shall be thine everlasting light, and the days of thy mourning shall be ended.

 

—Isaiah 60:19-20

 

 

 

 

Isaiah speaks of things from REV 21:23-26:

 

“Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.”

 

—Isaiah 60:11

 

 

 

And Ezekiel speaks of things from REV 22:1-2:

 

 

“And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.”

 

—Ezekiel 47:12

 

 

The temple of God described by Ezekiel will not be in the city proper of the New Jerusalem (see Revelation 21:22), but in a northern suburb, if you will.

 

Surrounding the square city of Jerusalem will be farm land reserved for the workers of the city, who will come from all the tribes of Israel (see Ezekiel 48:17-19). This area is a rectangular area (with the square New Jerusalem within it; see Ezekiel 45:6, 48:15-19, 30-35). Adjacent to this area on the north side will be another rectangular area of the same size for the Levites (see Ezekiel 45:5, 48:21-22), who will serve in the temple. Adjacent to this area on the north side will be another rectangular area of the same size reserved for the priests who will minister in the temple (see Ezekiel 45:4, 48:10-12). The temple will be in the center of this rectangular area belonging to the priests (see Ezekiel 45:2,4 ; 48:10).

 

 Half of the RIVER OF WATER OF LIFE will flow out from the northern suburb of the NEW JERUSALEM from the south side of the temple (see Ezekiel 47:1) into the Dead Sea (see Ezekiel 47:8, Zechariah 14:8). The other half of the RIVER OF THE WATER OF LIFE will flow from the THRONE of the LORD and the LAMB down the middle of the great street of the NEW JERUSALEM (see Revelation 22:1), the Holy City, into the Mediterranean Sea (see Zechariah 14:8). And the name of Jerusalem from that time onward forever more will be THE LORD IS THERE (see the very last verse of Ezekiel)!

 

 

So then, since Ezekiel’s temple comes into play in the age to come and believers in Jesus no longer need a sacrifice for sin, how then can there be animal sacrifices in Ezekiel’s temple some may ask.

 

The temple worship and sacrifices will be for the sake of the mortal men of Israel and nations of the earth at that time for indeed, the earth at that time in the new age to come will be populated with mortals in addition to immortals.

 

Believers in Jesus who endure until the end of this age and hence get saved, will get their reward of eternal salvation and eternal life and eternal rewards at the Second Coming.

 

The sons of God will inherit the great feast of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob:

 

“And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.”

In this eternal age of to come of which I speak, which is initiated in REV CHP 21, the body of Messiah, the bride of the LAMB, will be as gods:

“the house of David shall be as God, as the angel of the Lord before them”

 

—Zechariah 12:8

The earth at that time will also be populated with mortals:

 

17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

 

18 But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

 

19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

 

20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.

 

—Isaiah 65:17-20

 

 

 

3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.

 

4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.

 

5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

 

—Zechariah 8:3-5

 

 And so in the age to eternal age to come, which is a little over a thousand years after the Second Coming, the earth will be populated with mortals at that time and Israel and the nations of the earth will come to worship at Ezekiel’s temple from that time on and forever.

And daily in the temple spoken of by Ezekiel, a perfect lamb without blemish will be sacrificed morning by morning, forever and ever, in perpetuity:

 

13 Thou shalt daily prepare a burnt offering unto the Lord of a lamb of the first year without blemish: thou shalt prepare it every morning.

 

14 And thou shalt prepare a meat offering for it every morning, the sixth part of an ephah, and the third part of an hin of oil, to temper with the fine flour; a meat offering continually by a perpetual ordinance unto the Lord.

 

15 Thus shall they prepare the lamb, and the meat offering, and the oil, every morning for a continual burnt offering.

 

—Ezekiel 46:13-15

 

This will be a daily, eternal reminder for those of us who belong to the precious LAMB OF GOD!

 

Do any bible-believing Christians out there know what shape the 3 inner gates, the Holy Place, and the Most Holy Place in Ezekiel’s temple form? 

It’s a shape you all know.

If you think it is a mere coincidence that the 3 inner gates and the Holy and Most Holy Place form the shape of a cross, know that there are no such things as coincidences with God.

It’s no coincidence that in Ezekiel’s temple we see Israel and all the nations coming to worship the LORD on mount Zion in a northern suburb of the New Jerusalem and the shape of the inner-most parts of the ceremonial temple where the worship and animal sacrifices take place form a perfect cross!

There are no coincidences with God!

 

There will always be a ceremonial temple for animal sacrifice for Israel in the age to come in Ezekiel’s temple. The daily sacrifice of a spotless lamb (see Ezekiel 46:13-15 above) will be a daily reminder throughout eternity of the precious sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We will be singing the praises of His salvation daily (see Psalm 96:2) for we are a holy priesthood with a superior covenant in a superior temple and we offer up sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ (see 1 Peter 2:5.).

Daily, throughout eternity, inside Ezekiel’s temple, every morning a one year old lamb without blemish will sacrificed, a reminder for us that belong to Jesus.

 

And if that’s not enough, the inner most and most important part of the temple where the sacrifices occur forms the shape of a cross!

 

Daily we will be reminded of the precious blood sacrifice of the LAMB OF GOD!

 

Tell me something. If a burnt offering is an aroma pleasing to the LORD, and we know that it is (see Exodus 29:41), and if the LORD changes not, and we know that He does not, then does it not make sense that the LORD has already called for and will institute animal sacrifices in perpetuity?

Indeed!

It says so in His Word!
