Shelter from the Storm: The Feast of Tabernacles

Discussing current events and how they relate to Biblical prophesy. What are some critical signs are pointing to the imminent Rapture of the Church?

I have asked one thing from the Lord;
it is what I desire:
to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
gazing on the beauty of the Lord
and seeking Him in His temple.
For He will conceal me in His shelter
in the day of adversity;
He will hide me under the cover of His tent;
He will set me high on a rock. (Psalm 27:4-5)

.

In these turbulent times, the world seems to be witnessing an unprecedented series of storms, both natural and man-made. From devastating hurricanes to intensifying solar storms, these events remind us of the biblical warnings about the signs of the End Times. The violent hurricanes sweeping through regions are leaving destruction in their wake, while solar storms disrupt communication systems and power grids, hinting at the fragility of our modern world. These natural phenomena serve as powerful reminders of the forces beyond human control, reminding us of the prophecies outlined in the scriptures about nature’s upheavals in the final days.

At the same time, global unrest and political turmoil intensify. The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has escalated into war, with consequences that reverberate worldwide, stirring fear and uncertainty. Here in the U.S., political polarization and division are at an all-time high, creating what feels like a domestic war between ideologies. This perfect storm of geopolitical and societal tension mirrors the chaos foretold in biblical prophecies, as we draw ever closer to the fulfillment of End Times revelations. As these signs converge, they prompt us to reflect on our spiritual preparedness for what lies ahead.

Are things really that bad? All you have to do is look at the latest news.

We are living on a dying planet. Soon, battles over basic resources will make the current drama look trivial.

Where is the shelter for Christians in these storms?

The Festival of Shelters, commonly called Sukkot or the Feast of Tabernacles, and known also as the Feast of Ingathering, is a biblical Jewish holiday celebrated on the 15th day of the seventh month, Tishrei. For 2024, it begins at sunset on October 16, 2024 and ends at nightfall on October 23, 2024.

The Bible refers to the Feast of the Ingathering (Exodus 23:16), when grains and fruits were gathered at the harvest’s end, and to the Feast of Booths (Leviticus 23:34), recalling the days when the Israelites lived in huts (sukkot) during their years of wandering in the wilderness after the Exodus from Egypt. The festival is characterized by the building of huts made of branches.

How great is Your goodness
that You have stored up for those who fear You
and accomplished in the sight of everyone
for those who take refuge in You.
You hide them in the protection of Your presence;
You conceal them in a shelter
from the schemes of men,
from quarrelsome tongues. (Psalm 31:19-20)

The Exodus of Israel from Egypt was the historical event that God wanted Israel not to forget. Hence why several future biblical authors refer to the event, declaring to their audience not to forget it. The Lord even spoke through Jeremiah the prophet saying:

…the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt…(Jeremiah 31:32)

Of all the feasts that the Lord prescribed for Israel to celebrate in commemoration of His relationship with them, the only one we know that will be celebrated in the future regularly by ALL nations that are left after the tribulation is the Feast of Tabernacles.

Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, and to celebrate the Festival of Booths. Should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, rain will not fall on them. And if the people of Egypt will not go up and enter, then rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague the Lord inflicts on the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Booths. This will be the punishment of Egypt and all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Booths. (Zechariah 14:16-19)

Did you notice that none of the other six feasts are to be celebrated by the gentiles in the future – just this one? This is a festival that originally described another old chapter of the love story between God and His chosen people – Israel.

Yet under the New Testament (New Covenant), this festival will be fulfilled and celebrated by ALL nations every year in Jerusalem.

The two elements that are interesting in Zechariah’s prophecy are:

1) “…Everyone that is left from ALL nations…” – speaking of a remnant from a great global catastrophe.

2) “…Come up to Jerusalem to worship the King…” – The nations will come up to Jerusalem to worship the Messiah who will sit on the throne of David and restore his fallen tabernacle.

This is the only time we hear the name Feast of Tabernacles in conjunction with some global events that will cause many to die.

Then it’s followed by gentiles coming from outside of Israel to gather with the Jews in the land, and all of them coming to Jerusalem to be part of the Lord’s kingdom on earth.

The tribulation, followed by the return of the Messiah back to earth together with His redeemed ones whom He took to be with Him to escape God’s judgment, are the major events that will usher in the fulfillment of this great festival.

Even though the Feast of Tabernacles is about the Exodus from Egypt and dwelling in booths during the long journey of Israel into their promised land, the bigger picture is the Kingdom of God on earth known as the Millennial Kingdom.

He will tabernacle with us in the New Heavens, New Earth, and New Jerusalem. The shift is made from our Tabernacles in the past to His Tabernacle among people in the future.

This is why we read the following in the book of Revelation:

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. (Revelation 21:3)

May we all remember that in order to reign with Him during the Millennial Kingdom, we must believe in the Passover sacrifice (Jesus’ shed blood) who lived an Unleavened (sinless) life, becoming the First Fruits (resurrection) from among the dead, who sent His Holy Spirit at Pentecost to be with us until the last Trumpet (rapture), when He will take us to be with Him during the tribulation. Once He returns, ALL Israel will be saved as they mourn during their last Day of Atonement.

The Lord is our shelter from the storm!

Soon, the Lord will take all of us who are sealed with His Holy Spirit:

 As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark. They didn’t know until the flood came and swept them all away. So this is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be: Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and one left. Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. (Matthew 24:37-42)

For we say this to you by a revelation from the Lord: We who are still alive at the Lord’s coming will certainly have no advantage over those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-18)

Your heart must not be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if not, I would have told you. I am going away to prepare a place for you. If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come back and receive you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also. (John 14:1-3)

If you are not sure that you are a member of the family of God, you can accept Christ into your life right now, by praying:

“Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.  Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life.  I ask you in to my life and heart to be my Lord and Savior.”
